Khosro Khosravi was born in 1965 in Tehran. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Tehran and a Master’s degree in Art Research from the University of Art, Tehran. Khosravi has been active on both national and international art scenes, with his works exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Some of his notable exhibitions include the Tehran Painting Biennial, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Tokyo, and various exhibitions in Paris and Venice.
Khosravi’s video art often merges with his background in painting, resulting in works characterized by a distinct two-dimensional quality. Some of his notable video works include “Fifth Grade,” “You and I,” “The Pier,” “Dizzy,” “The Names,” “Building Kharaqan Castle,” “Shadows of Ancestral Ghosts,” “Watching TV,” and “Heads or Tails.”
One of his well-known works, “The Pier,” depicts a day on a wooden pier by the Caspian Sea, showing people sitting and staring into the distance. This piece has been described as a “video painting” due to its calm and repetitive nature, resembling a living canvas.
Another significant work, titled “Fifth Grade,” explores the educational structure for young girls in Iran. Through religious and educational lenses, this piece highlights broader cultural contradictions. The video includes dialogues from a fifth-grade reading book, juxtaposing the innocence of childhood with the complexities of cultural expectations.
