Every year, a large number of radiographic films enter the environment and are non-recyclable. These films have become the material for my work, and the contrast between radiographic films and paper, derived from natural trees and roots, has created a new phenomenon in my artwork, revealing the inherent conflict and destruction between these materials.
Video Statement: In this work, we witness the contrast between the shape of plants and waste, which transforms into a confrontation as the film progresses, showing how plants gradually disappear from nature due to the presence of waste and their by-products.
Setareh Hosseini was born in 1979 in Tehran. Her artistic influence began in childhood, inspired by her mother’s painting activities, and the presence of music and painting in her family. This interest took a more serious turn as she pursued graphic design (bachelor’s degree) and illustration (master’s degree). She employs photography and video art alongside traditional media like painting and illustration, creating a dynamic interplay between her studied disciplines and contemporary art trends. Her works address various themes, including women’s issues in their living environments, the relationship between tradition and modernity, and the contemporary blend of cultural characteristics. She also explores environmental concerns, which are evident in some of her works. Hosseini’s themes encompass diversity, unity, local and global perspectives, the individual’s relationship with the collective, gender issues, and environmental awareness.
She has taught art at various branches of Islamic Azad University, including the UAE and Roudehen branches, and is currently teaching at Sooreh University. She has held three solo exhibitions at Vista Gallery and over 50 group exhibitions in Iran and internationally, including in Italy, France, South Korea, Armenia, and more. Her works have been featured in several biennials and selected for festivals such as the Video Artist Festival and the 42nd Golden Pen of Belgrade Award (7th International Biennial of Illustration).
